With two other German monks, Leo Rudloff and Albert Hammensteade, he founded St. Paul's Priory, a monastic foundation in Keyport, which closed in 1946.

Twin brothers Miklós and György Pogany were born in Hungary of Jewish parents who, when the boys were young, converted to Catholicism. Miklós, the author's father, returned to the practice of Judaism, and György became a Catholic priest. Both settled in New Jersey. György served as pastor of the church of Saint Mary of the Assumption, a Hungarian parish that was for a time located in Newark and then in Irvington.
