Fr. Albert Holtz, O.S.B. '60 has published his seventh book of meditations since 1998. His latest effort is called Faces of Easter: Meeting the Paschal Mystery in the People Around Us.
In “Faces of Easter,” Fr. Albert uses short vignettes to help us discover the variety of ways that the Easter mystery is present in our daily lives. On each of the fifty days of the Easter season we listen in on his conversations with street people and students, we chant the psalms with him and his brother Monks at Newark Abbey, and glimpse the world of a Monk through his eyes.
Fr. Albert contributed his organizational abilities when the Monks of Newark Abbey decided to reopen St. Benedict’s Prep in 1973. He designed the three-phase school calendar that is still followed today. He has served at various times as Assistant Headmaster for Curriculum and Dean of Faculty. He has held many roles as an educator, teaching such courses as French, Latin, Spanish, English, Logic, Religion, among others. For many years he directed the St. Benedict’s Gospel Choir and to this day, still directs the annual Christmas Program.
